Building Bridges Before Arrival

Since early 2024, Jönköping University has been using Goin' to help international students start building friendships and networks even before they arrive on campus. The impact was immediate, with over 15,000 friendships formed across nearly 90 countries. Through Goin', 98% of students said it made them more excited about starting their studies, and 94% expressed that it improved their sense of belonging and community. Additionally, 98% noted that Goin' helped reduce anxiety about making friends—a crucial aspect of the transition for many students.

Now, JU is extending this opportunity to all students, ensuring everyone can connect, engage, and form meaningful relationships from the moment they receive their offer.

“We are very happy about this! Our goal is to strengthen the integration between domestic and international students. At JU, we strive to create an inclusive and diverse campus environment where students from all backgrounds can connect, learn, and grow together. Goin' ensures that students can start building friendships from the moment they receive their offer.”
Maria Sederholm Granelund, Head of the International Office at Jönköping University

Enhancing the Student Experience with Goin'

By adding a social layer to the student experience, Jönköping University aims to bridge the gap between admission and arrival. The platform helps students engage, connect, and support each other even before setting foot on campus. Through Goin', JU is creating a strong sense of community that encourages both academic and personal growth.

Voices from the Community:

Lilla from Hungary, studying International Management:
“I really like Goin’. I think it's a great idea for us to get to know each other before we move to Jönköping. It helps a lot, actually. I already know a few people who are going ‘alone,’ so I know I won't feel so lonely.”
Siddharth from India, studying Product Design:
“It is actually one of the best ideas one could come up with. As someone from India who is about to move to another country for the first time, Goin made me believe that I am not alone on this journey. I have made a lot of friends from India as well as other countries.”
Zyad Ebid from Egypt, studying International Marketing:
“That's one of the most creative ideas! It works totally fine with me. I found some new friends from my country and other countries.”
Victoria from Germany, studying Strategic Entrepreneurship:
“I'm really grateful for Goin. As a new (international) student, this is a great opportunity to connect with other new students from my own country or the same study.”
Azekas 2 from Hungary, studying Sustainable Enterprise:
“I think it's an amazing idea and a great way for new students to interact and get to know each other!”

Creating a Connected, Inclusive Campus

Jönköping University's commitment to enhancing student life goes beyond academic excellence; it’s about creating a welcoming environment where every student feels part of a larger community. By expanding Goin' to all students, JU is setting a new standard for integration, ensuring domestic and international students can learn, grow, and thrive together.

We’re excited to see the continued success of Jönköping University’s Goin' community and how this expansion will inspire other universities to create greater connection and inclusivity among their students.
